6/16/07 - Middleboro casino supporters may be left scratching their heads trying to figure out just how long Selectmen have to work out an agreement with the Mashpee Wampanoag after watching Video Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Chairman, Glenn Marshall being interviewed by Chet Curtis on last night's NECN Curtis Report.

He said they were committed to finding a community, but wasn't sure if Middleboro was 100%.

He said that most of the residents of Middleboro are very comfortable with having the casino. He said that the tribe is comfortable with Middleboro; but that New Bedford is still very much in the mix.

The question puzzling many Middleboro residents, as well as the Selectman, is just how long the tribe will give us to hammer out an agreement. Marshall said that "we'd like to settle down on one spot within 60-90 days."   Asked what the hurry was, he said that every day that you delay getting back into the process of land trust adds weeks to the process.

How much time is there for Middleboro to get its ducks in a row? We'd have to be mind readers to determine the answer to this question.

Asked about sweetening the offer, he said that some people think it's not enough. Marshall added that if they gave it all to us it probably still wouldn't be enough. He said he started much lower than $7 million, but feels this is now a legitimate offer.

He said that if we vote against the proposal he'd probably put housing on the land they already own here, and strongly hinted they'd be seriously looking at New Bedford for the casino.

He said that when he's talked to people in town, four or five to one are pro casino.

He mentioned watching people at the last Selectman's meeting handing out Casino-Friend.com bumper stickers, where we handed out about 150 stickers. What he failed to mention, which he didn't know, is that we are almost out of our first order of 500 bumper stickers.

6/16/07 Get ready to set your tape machines for while your at Monday's Selectman's meeting: A member of Casino-Friend.com's steering committee  and a member of CasinoFacts.org are tentatively scheduled to debate the Middleboro casino issue on WGBH Channel 2's Greater Boston at 7:00PM Monday.
